Corte Madera Deck

California living, especially in Marin County, is grounded in indoor/outdoor living. With the expansive renovation and full interior furnishings of this house on a hill, one thing remained constant: the deck. Amongst all that is new, the transition is seamless to and from a deck that was not changing. The beauty of this deck is that there are no harsh contrasts from interior to exterior. Rather, an intentional transition from inside to outside. One way this was achieved is by the selection of natural fibers that connect interior pieces to the outside landscape. The color palette of the pillows and linens inside is derived directly from the steadfast Magnolia and Madrone trees outside. These slow growth, constant trees have surrounded this house and its deck for years. They grow up around railings and peek through every window. Using their colors in the interior and in the transition space connects the existing to the newly designed interior. These elements join the spaces and make the transition natural.
